JAN 30TH

No one has lived until (s)he has seen Gaudi.

Ignorance cannot be bliss. Virgins may not know what they are missing but at least they can anticipate, speculate, and imagine. What is infinitely worse is ignorance of bliss until too late, as we pass it completely unaware. There are no cravings, no longings, and dreams that are bittersweet- for nothing is like the real thing. With Gaudi no picture could ever do him justice. Here are signposts of what mankind can hope to aspire to: genius, beauty, simplicity that is timeless. His architectural prescience is stunning and shocking to sensibilities- as his design of laundry room conduits to its sinks demonstrate- made for practical usage while simultaneously and paradoxically manifesting b.e.a.u.t.y.
At 9h30, after having spent the morning helping my friend Pietro move, met a British lady Laureen whom I met at the Liceu Tour. Only here for two days she really wanted to see Gaudi's buildings so we thought to do them all in a day. Heading towards the Casa Basillo, the facade is made with the glass of tinted bottles, hence the reason when it is day the home looks more like a rainbow then a structure. Was able to take pictures in the interior which will post below so that can see for yourselves the wonder of this place.
After that La Pedrera, which let me tell you, looks like it is floating. Only after staring without blinking for a few seconds does ones brain stop twisting & turning, startled by this unusual treasure. Unfortunately, did not have the time to go inside today but believe you me will return.
And finally of course, the Sagrada Famillia. Barcelona's pride and joy, what a pleasure to have gone in the low season. With few people there, this incomplete church is massive & modern. The religious statues are in a style never before seen. Though Gaudi is classified as being a Modernista artist - & undoubtedly he is affected by these times - this is beyond borders, boxes, & classification. How proud I am of climbing the 80 meters of stairs to the very top (& no did NOT take the elevator)!!!
On the way down my legs were shaking from excitement & wariness. On the Way back home made a quick stop at the Arc de Triumph (yes there is one here too) & did a Tour of the Paleu Musical which unfortunately could not take any pics...The pics below will show it all.
